Korver to feature BLM on jersey: 'In this moment in time, this is the message'

Milwaukee Bucks veteran Kyle Korver plans to feature the words "Black Lives Matter" on his jersey when the 2019-20 NBA season resumes in Orlando later this month.

"I just think that in this moment in time, this is the message," he told The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears. "Anything I would ever hope to convey on the back of a jersey is represented in these three words."

The phrase is one of a number of social justice messages players are permitted to feature on their jerseys.

At 39, Korver is the fourth-oldest active player to appear in the NBA this season; he trails recently retired Atlanta Hawks wing Vince Carter, Miami Heat lifer Udonis Haslem, and the recently signed Jamal Crawford of the Brooklyn Nets - making Korver the oldest white player in the league.

In April 2019, Korver wrote an essay for The Players' Tribune on how being white has impacted both his playing career and his life overall.

He wrote: "How can I - as a white man, part of this systemic problem - become part of the solution when it comes to racism in my workplace? In my community? In this country?"

He concluded the piece by stating it was the responsibility of those in his position to use their privilege to address society's inequalities.

Now, Korver plans to do his part to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

"It's a great opportunity," Korver told The Undefeated. "It's a unique moment. We're not able to interact with each other very much yet because of the safety protocols in place. But I think everyone is very aware of the opportunity and wants to capitalize on it."
