D'Antoni: Westbrook to join Rockets at hotel Monday
Houston Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni said Russell Westbrook will join the rest of the team in Orlando on Monday, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
D'Antoni also said Westbrook will likely miss Houston's first scrimmage Friday against the Toronto Raptors.
"I do expect that once he clears everything that he'll be ready to go five-on-five and all that," D'Antoni explained. "I would think Friday might be a little early. That'll be up to the medical staff and Russell himself and see how he feels in the days before.
"Hopefully, he'll get in a couple of scrimmages and then be ready for us to play."
Westbrook announced last week that he did not travel with the Rockets to Orlando on July 9 due to having tested positive for COVID-19. The league's guidelines state that players must test negative for the coronavirus twice before they're allowed to travel to the NBA's campus, according to MacMahon.
Upon arrival, players must then quarantine inside their hotel rooms for two days before they can reunite with the rest of their team.
Westbrook was not the only member of the Rockets who couldn't travel to Orlando with the club. James Harden arrived Tuesday after being held back due to "family issues." Houston is also still without forward Luc Mbah a Moute, who has yet to receive clearance to travel to Orlando, according to MacMahon.
