Report: NBA considering Nov. 18 for draft date
The NBA informed teams that Nov. 18 is being considered as the potential date for the 2020 draft, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The league initially intended to hold the draft Oct. 15, just three days after the latest possible date for Game 7 of The Finals.
The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association already agreed to push back the dates for the draft, the start of the free-agency window, and opening night of the 2020-21 season, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
In addition to giving teams - such as the Minnesota Timberwolves, owners of the No. 1 pick - more time to evaluate prospects, teams reportedly wanted to give the league and the NBPA a chance to determine salary-cap numbers for next season, according to Wojnarowski.
After a decade of rapid growth in basketball-related revenue, 2019-20 has presented a number of crises - in particular, the wide-ranging impact of the COVID-19 pandemic - that are expected to have major ramifications for the league's cap structure.
