LaVar wants Knicks or Pistons to draft LaMelo
LaVar Ball has two ideal landing spots in mind for his youngest son and potential top draft pick, LaMelo.
During a recent interview with "The Pascal Show," the elder Ball said his preference is for either the New York Knicks or Detroit Pistons, who own the No. 8 and No. 7 picks, respectively, to take LaMelo in the 2020 draft.
"I want him in either New York or Detroit," Ball said about 20 minutes into the interview.
When asked why he didn't want LaMelo to play for the family's hometown Los Angeles Lakers, LaVar explained the current roster wouldn't be a good fit for his son.
"The makeup that they have right now, that's not good for me," Ball said. "When they finish with the AD and LeBron here and all that, 'cause check this out: I already had a son in L.A. with a raggedy-ass coach. So it don't matter where you go, the key is to have the right coach behind you."
Ball has repeatedly lobbied for the Knicks to draft LaMelo, even suggesting the team bring his other sons, Lonzo and LiAngelo, on board too. However, LaMelo told reporters last month he's his "own man" and believes he can play on any team.
