The Atlanta Hawks are nearing an agreement to hire Nate McMillan as an assistant on head coach Lloyd Pierce's staff, The New York Times' Marc Stein reports.
McMillan was recently dismissed by the Indiana Pacers after seven seasons with the organization. He spent the past four campaigns as the team's head coach, earning a 183-136 record.
Prior to his time in Indiana, the 56-year-old held head coaching positions with the Portland Trail Blazers and Seattle SuperSonics.
The Houston Rockets were reportedly interested in adding McMillan to the team's coaching staff to assist first-year bench boss Stephen Silas.
