The Sacramento Kings have hired former Los Angeles Clippers assistant Rex Kalamian to join Luke Walton's coaching staff.

"I'm excited to add Rex's experience and perspective to the team," Walton said in a statement. "His nearly 30 years in the league will benefit our group and I look forward to working with him."

Kalamian joined the Clippers in June 2018 after three seasons with the Toronto Raptors. Prior to that, he spent six seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, some of which he spent as the top assistant to Scott Brooks.

During his time in Toronto, Kalamian was regarded for his defensive work during Dwane Casey's run as head coach.

The move is a return to Sacramento for Kalamian, who also served two seasons with the Kings from 2007-09. The team went a combined 55-109 over that span as the franchise was in rebuild mode following an era of eight straight postseason appearances.

New Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue is expected to revamp the team's coaching staff after succeeding Doc Rivers in October. Chauncey Billups and former Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson have both been reported as candidates to join as assistants.

Kalamian will be joined on Sacramento's staff by Alvin Gentry. The former New Orleans Pelicans bench boss was brought aboard as Walton's associate head coach last month.
