John Wall: NBA players are 'too friendly' today
Washington Wizards point guard John Wall thinks there isn't enough hostility in today's NBA.
On a recent episode of Fubo Sports' "No Chill with Gilbert Arenas," Wall lamented how friendly players are to each other now compared to Arenas' era.
"A lot of guys be too friendly now," Wall said. "Like (Arenas') era, they weren't friendly, they tried to rip each others' heads off. Now it's like guys buddy-buddy."
Arenas explained how that competitive mindset extends to pickup games for him and Wall.
"If I'm gonna step into a pickup game, I came in to get better," Arenas said. "Like if I wanna just get a run, I can do that anywhere. But we called each other for a reason. Let's do this. Let's go at each other. We have to get each other better."
Wall hasn't played an NBA game since undergoing season-ending surgery on his left heel in December 2018. He then ruptured his left Achilles tendon the following month. He's been working out with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and other players in California ahead of next season.
