Report: Players opting out of 2020-21 season must notify NBA by Dec. 1

The NBA and NBA Players Association agreed that players who want to opt out of the upcoming 2020-21 campaign must notify the league by Dec. 1, reports The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Once the deadline passes, all unsigned players will be prohibited from inking a new contract, Charania adds.

The NBA's free-agency period opened Friday, and the regular season is set to start Dec. 22, just over two months after the Los Angeles Lakers claimed the Larry O'Brien Trophy at the bubble in Orlando.

Several players opted out of the bubble-based restart due to concerns over COVID-19, including Trevor Ariza, Avery Bradley, and Davis Bertans, among others.

Earlier this month, Charania reported the NBA expects limited fan attendance will be allowed in 5-10 arenas.
