Although the Toronto Raptors stole a little bit of Alex Len's sunshine when they waived him Tuesday, the Washington Wizards signed the veteran to a one-year contract, the team announced.

The 27-year-old Ukrainian made seven appearances for the Raptors to start the season, averaging 2.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in just under 11 minutes per game.

The former fifth overall pick cleared waivers but reportedly garnered interest from a number of suitors, per Charania.

The Wizards haven't played a game since Jan. 11 due to a shortage of healthy players and had a clear need for frontcourt depth after starting center Thomas Bryant suffered a partially torn ACL earlier this month.

On Thursday, head coach Scott Brooks said the team resorted to five-on-zero offensive drills "because we don't have enough for 10," according to The Athletic's Fred Katz.

The Wizards' next game is scheduled for Sunday at the San Antonio Spurs.
