Report: Heat's Leonard undergoes season-ending shoulder surgery
Miami Heat center Meyers Leonard will miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season due to season-ending shoulder surgery, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Leonard underwent the successful procedure Tuesday, according to The Associated Press' Tim Reynolds.
Leonard has been dealing with a left shoulder strain since Jan. 9, when he was forced to leave a game against the Washington Wizards because of the injury. The big man hasn't played in Miami's 12 games since then, and he's only appeared in three contests this campaign overall.
The 28-year-old finishes his season averaging 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.7 minutes per game.
Miami is expected to apply and be granted an injured-player exception for Leonard worth $4.7 million, the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman reports.
Selected 11th overall in the 2011 draft, Leonard has played for the Heat and Portland Trail Blazers during his nine-year NBA career.
