Report: Pistons rejected Kings' offer of Bagley for rookie Bey
The Detroit Pistons recently rejected the Sacramento Kings' trade offer of former second overall pick Marvin Bagley III for rookie wing Saddiq Bey, sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.
The former Duke standout has showed some promise through three NBA seasons but has also struggled with injuries - including his current ailment, a fracture in his left hand. Still, in 112 appearances to date, the 6-foot-11 big man has averaged 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Bagley has also upped his perimeter accuracy to 35.4% on 3-pointers, placing him in the 60th percentile among big man, according to Cleaning the Glass.
Meanwhile, Bey has exceeded early expectations with the rebuilding Pistons. The No. 19 pick in last November's draft is averaging 10.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in just over 24 minutes per game. He's also hitting 38.6% of his 5.7 long-range attempts per game.
Despite Bagley's two additional years of pro experience, the two are virtually the same age. Bagley turned 22 on March 14; Bey will reach the same milestone on April 9. The key difference is that Bagley will be eligible for a significant contract extension as early as this offseason; Bey will be on a minuscule rookie deal through 2024.
