Curry: 'I gotta be' MVP this season

Stephen Curry believes he's the MVP of the 2020-21 season.

"I mean, I gotta be. I gotta be," Curry said on the "Rex Chapman Show." "I probably won't get it, but whatever."

The Golden State Warriors sit ninth in the Western Conference with a 29-29 record entering Wednesday's matchup against the Washington Wizards. But Curry's statistics certainly make his MVP case a compelling one.

He's on one of the hottest scoring runs in recent memory, averaging a ridiculous 40.8 points on 54.9% shooting from the field and 50.3% from three in 10 games this month. Curry also became the first player 33 years or older to score 30-plus points in 11 consecutive games, surpassing Michael Jordan's previous mark of 10 straight contests.

Curry's numbers are on track to rival those he produced during the Warriors' 73-win campaign in 2015-16, in which he was recognized as the league's first unanimous MVP selection.

Unfortunately, for Curry, the Warriors' record will likely prevent him from capturing a third Maurice Podoloff Trophy. Nine of the last 10 MVP winners were on teams that finished either first or second in their respective conference.
