Jordan, KD, more join $305M investment in NBA Top Shot creator
Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant are among the latest investors in Dapper Labs, the creators of NBA Top Shot.
The blockchain technology company announced a $305-million funding round Tuesday that includes Jordan and Durant along with Klay Thompson, Kyle Lowry, Alex Caruso, and several other NBA players, according to Chris Bumbaca of USA Today.
"NBA Top Shot is one of the best demonstrations we've seen of how quickly new technology can change the landscape for media and sports fans,” Durant said in a statement. "We're excited to follow the progress with everything happening on Flow blockchain and use our platform with the boardroom to connect with fans in a new way."
Founded in partnership with the NBA, Top Shot is an online marketplace that allows fans to purchase in-game video highlights called "moments." The platform has completed nearly $500 million in sales and registered more than 800,000 accounts since it launched into open beta in October.
