Rockets hire former Celtics, Grizzlies GM Wallace
The Houston Rockets hired former Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics general manager Chris Wallace, the team announced Tuesday.
Wallace will serve as the club's new director of scouting, sources told ESPN's Tim MacMahon. He's expected to provide experience and expertise for Rockets GM Rafael Stone while Houston rebuilds, MacMahon notes.
Wallace last worked with the Grizzlies, who hired him in June 2007 as GM and vice president of basketball operations to replace Jerry West. He selected Mike Conley with the fourth overall pick of the 2007 draft in one of his first moves with Memphis.
Wallace also authored the multiplayer trade that sent Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers and brought Gasol's brother Marc to Memphis in February 2008, commencing a rebuild for the Grizzlies.
Memphis reassigned the longtime executive to a scouting role in 2019 after promoting Zach Kleiman to executive vice president of basketball operations.
Wallace spent 10 years as general manager of the Celtics before joining the Grizzlies.
