Former Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks is finalizing a deal to join the Portland Trail Blazers' coaching staff as Chauncey Billups' top assistant, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Washington fired Brooks last month after a five-season stint. He led the Wizards to the playoffs three times but only managed one series victory.
Brooks also previously coached the Oklahoma City Thunder for seven campaigns. He owns a career 521-414 record.
Portland hired Billups in late June to replace outgoing bench boss Terry Stotts. The 2004 NBA Finals MVP spent this past season as an assistant coach under Tyronn Lue with the Los Angeles Clippers.
