Report: Van Gundy returns to TNT after year with Pelicans
Veteran NBA coach Stan Van Gundy is set to pick up where he left off, returning to TNT as an analyst after his ill-fated year with the New Orleans Pelicans, sources told the New York Post's Andrew Marchand.
The 61-year-old will reportedly also contribute as a studio analyst for NBA TV.
Van Gundy previously worked as an in-game analyst for TNT in 2019-20.
The bench boss, who previously coached the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and Detroit Pistons to playoff appearances, struggled to connect with the Pelicans in 2020-21, as the promise of second-year phenom Zion Williamson gave way to an uninspired 31-41 record. New Orleans dismissed Van Gundy in June.
It's unclear whether Van Gundy is in the running to join TNT's top broadcast team - or whether anyone will be named to the post on a permanent basis, per Marchand. Play-by-play caller Marv Albert retired after the playoffs while his longtime color commentary partner Chris Webber stepped aside before the playoffs.
