An apparent lack of desire to continue playing with Joel Embiid is among the reasons Ben Simmons wants to leave Philadelphia.
"It has run its course," a source told The Athletic's Sam Amick of the 76ers' Simmons-Embiid pairing.
Simmons believes his playing style isn't suited for a team that features Embiid as its offensive centerpiece, as the latter often operates in the post and clogs up lanes, according to Amick's sources.
It seems Embiid doesn't share the same feeling regarding the partnership. The big man denied reports of a rift with Simmons earlier this month while saying he loves playing with the Australian guard. Embiid also was part of a 76ers contingent that recently attempted to meet with Simmons, hoping to convince him to join the team this season.
However, Embiid notably cited Simmons passing on a wide-open dunk as the "turning point" of the 76ers' Game 7 loss to the Atlanta Hawks during the Eastern Conference semifinals in June.
Despite consistent regular-season success, Simmons and Embiid haven't been able to guide the 76ers to a conference finals appearance over four seasons sharing the floor together.
