Edwards calls out T-Wolves after loss to Pelicans: 'Lock the f--- in'
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was far from pleased with his team's performance during their 107-98 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.
"Wake-up call for sure," Edwards told The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski about the defeat. "Lock in. Lock the f--- in. Everybody coming in here thinking it's sweet playing the Pelicans. Whooped our ass. Now our back's on the wall again. We got to wake up."
Edwards scored 28 points in the loss, one point off the season-high 29 he recorded in the Timberwolves' curtain-raiser against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. Karl-Anthony Towns had a game-high 32 points to go with 14 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and two blocks, while D'Angelo Russell contributed nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
However, while the star trio combined for 69 points, the rest of the roster managed just 29 in a game Minnesota never led beyond the first quarter. Edwards took issue with the unbalanced output and stressed a need for the three of them to get their teammates more involved.
"We think we the only ones on the team," he said. "We got to be willing to pass the ball. There's no 'I' in team. We can't beat five people with three people. We beat five people with five people."
The Timberwolves won't have to wait long to test their resolve as they face the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks on the road Wednesday.
