Evidently, merely experiencing the league-worst Houston Rockets as a passive spectator has become too much to bear for veteran point guard John Wall.

After sitting out the first quarter of the 2021-22 NBA season, the 31-year-old Wall has told general manager Rafael Stone that he would like to resume playing for the now 2-16 (.111) squad, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Prior to the season, the two sides reportedly agreed to hold out the five-time All-Star while the Rockets assessed his trade market. For Wall to return, he would likely have to cooperate with Houston's focus on developing its younger players, Wojnarowski reports.

The oft-injured floor general is owed $44.3 million this season and holds a $47.6-million player option for 2022-23. That contract is likely cost-prohibitive for any would-be trade suitor, given Wall has played just 113 regular-season games dating back to the start of the 2017-18 season.

Wall was acquired by the Rockets from the Washington Wizards after missing all of 2019-20 due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. He averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 40 appearances with Houston in 2020-21.

Wall was most recently selected to the All-Star Game in 2018. He was also voted to the All-NBA Third Team in 2016-17 and the All-Defensive Second Team in 2014-15.
