Danny Ainge is making his way back to an NBA front office, as the Utah Jazz hired the longtime Boston Celtics executive to oversee their basketball operations, the team announced Wednesday.
Ainge will be an alternate governor and CEO for the Jazz, while current Utah general manager Justin Zanik will remain in that position.
A former BYU star, Ainge joined the Celtics' front office in 2003 and retired from his role as president of basketball operations in June. Brad Stevens, previously Boston's head coach, moved into the position.
Ainge, a one-time All-Star and two-time NBA champion, also played for the Celtics and had stints with the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, and Phoenix Suns. He spent three full seasons coaching in Phoenix.
