Wizards announcer apologizes for mistaken remark about Porter's father
Washington Wizards broadcaster Glenn Consor issued an apology to the Houston Rockets' Kevin Porter Jr. after unintentionally making an unsavory remark about the guard's dead father in the closing moments of Wednesday's broadcast.
"Please allow me to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to Kevin Porter Jr., his family, and the Rockets organization for the comments I made during last night's game," Consor wrote.
"I mistakenly thought that Kevin was the son of former Washington player Kevin Porter and was unaware that the words I chose to describe his game-winning shot would be in any way hurtful or insensitive. I have reached out to Kevin to personally apologize and hope to be able to talk with him soon."
While reacting to a replay of the guard's game-winning 3-pointer, Consor said, "You've got to give credit. Kevin Porter Jr., like his dad, pulled that trigger at the right time."
Consor's comments received significant backlash given Porter's father was not former Washington Bullets player Kevin Porter but rather Bryan Kevin Porter Sr., who pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter in 1993 following the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl. The elder Porter was also killed by a gunshot in 2004.
LeBron James was among the most high-profile individuals to decry Consor's comments.
Oh he thought this was cool huh!!?? Nah we ain’t going for this! Sorry but this ain’t going to fly! How insensitive can you be to say something like this. Beat it man! I pray for you but there’s no place in our beautiful game for you! https://t.co/UgVOBUOsPK

Consor's mistake largely overshadowed Porter's thrilling game-winner, which delivered the Rockets a 114-111 win. Houston is now 11-28 on the season.
