Report: Nuggets plan to sign Cousins to 10-day contract
The Denver Nuggets intend to sign veteran center DeMarcus Cousins to a 10-day contract, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Cousins was recently waived by the Milwaukee Bucks before his contract became fully guaranteed for the remainder of the season on Friday.
In 17 appearances with the injury and COVID-hampered reigning champs, the 31-year-old averaged 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in just under 17 minutes per game.
A four-time All-Star in his heyday with the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans, Cousins has played a smaller role in recent years since suffering a pair of devastating lower-body injuries. After tearing his left Achilles in January 2018 and his left ACL during the 2019 offseason, the 270-pound behemoth has played just 65 games (including playoffs) over the past two seasons.
Cousins previously played for current Nuggets head coach Michael Malone for parts of two seasons in Sacramento from 2013-14.
Already facing the significant absence of starters Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr., the Nuggets boast a sizeable hole at center behind reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic. Third-year big man Vlatko Cancar underwent surgery for a broken bone in his right foot on Friday and Denver won't re-evaluate him for another 12 weeks.
