Kyrie still won't get vaccinated despite Durant's injury: 'I've made my decision'

Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving doesn't plan on changing his vaccination status despite his team's worsening bout with injuries.

Irving reaffirmed his stance when asked Monday if he'd consider getting vaccinated in the wake of Kevin Durant's injury. Durant is suffering a knee sprain that's expected to keep him out between four-to-six weeks.

"I'm asked questions all the time about what's my status, and I'm like, man, if you were in my position, it would be easy for someone to say, 'Well, why don't you just get vaccinated?' But you're not and that's just the reality of it," Irving said, according to SNY. "I've made my decision already and I'm standing on it."

The Nets' 114-107 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday was Irving's fourth appearance of the season after he sat out more than two months' worth of games. New York City forbids unvaccinated players on the Nets and New York Knicks from playing home games. The Nets initially prevented him from playing road contests until he could be a full-time member of the team before they reversed their stance in December.

Irving is averaging 20 points, 5.5 rebounds, and five assists since making his season debut on Jan. 5. He's only eligible to play in 18 of the Nets' 39 remaining regular-season games.
