Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James received an MRI on his knee that showed general swelling, coach Frank Vogel told reporters, including Spectrum Sportsnet's Mike Trudell, on Sunday.

Vogel added that James won't return to game action until the swelling dissipates.

James is now considered day-to-day after missing the Lakers' last two contests.

With co-star Anthony Davis missing 17 games due to a knee injury and offseason acquisition Russell Westbrook struggling with inefficiency, James has taken on more of the scoring load than in recent years. Los Angeles has a 24-26 record and is ninth in the Western Conference.

The 37-year-old is averaging 29.1 points per game, tied for second in the NBA this season. It's his highest mark since the 2009-10 campaign.
