Davis 'very optimistic' about rejoining Lakers this season
Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis is remaining positive about potentially returning to the lineup this season after missing the last month with a foot sprain.
"I'm very optimistic about it," Davis told ESPN's Dave McMenamin, "I'm trying to get back on the court as soon as possible. As far as a number or something, I would love to say 100, but with only a certain amount of games (left), not 100% sure."
Davis went down in a heap of pain after landing on Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert's leg on Feb. 16 and was originally given with a four-week timeline that is nearing its end.
The Lakers have just 16 games remaining in the regular season and sit firmly as the Western Conference's 9-seed.
Head coach Frank Vogel is trying to not be overly concerned about his starting forward's absence from the lineup as the team attempts to end the regular season on a high note.
"The mindset is to not think about Anthony and try to win these games in the short term," Vogel said.
Having Davis back in the fold would be key for a Lakers team that has gone just 11-17 with the All-Star sidelined this season.
