Embiid wants to win 'a bunch' of MVP, DPOY awards
Joel Embiid is in prime position to claim MVP honors for the first time in his career this season, but he won't be satisfied winning the award just once.
The Philadelphia 76ers star appeared on the latest episode of "The Draymond Green Show" to discuss the current MVP race, among other topics. While a championship remains the ultimate goal for Embiid, the 28-year-old also has his sights set on winning multiple MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards.
"Winning a championship matters to me a lot, so if I were to not win (MVP), then win a championship, even better. But then again, you know we all have egos," Embiid told Green. "You want to win a bunch of Defensive Player of the Year (awards) in your career just like I want to win a bunch of MVPs and Defensive Player of the Year in my career. At some point, it would be cool to do both, too - especially at the same time."
Embiid and Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic are widely considered this season's two MVP favorites, and Embiid knows their race will be a close one.
"There is no right or wrong answer," Embiid said. "(Jokic is) a monster, but I feel like I've also put myself in a position to where I deserve it. It is my time. But like I said, it's up to you guys, you the media."
