Kidd: Need other Mavs to 'join the party' after dominant Luka game
Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd discussed the importance of creating offense outside of Luka Doncic after Monday's 121-114 Game 1 loss to the Phoenix Suns.
"We've just got to get someone to join the party," he said, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
Doncic had 45 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists on 50% shooting from the field in 44 minutes. The three-time All-Star from Slovenia was also responsible for half of the team's 16 assists.
"He got whatever he wanted, when you look at the shots in the paint, behind the arc, mid-range, and then also I thought he got his teammates some great looks that we normally had made," said Kidd.
No other player for the Mavericks was able to break 20 points in the contest, with Maxi Kleber hitting 19 off the bench.
Jalen Brunson, the league's leading scorer in the first round of the playoffs, only had 13 points on 6-of-16 shooting. Spencer Dinwiddie, the team's sixth man and a key contributor to offensive creation, was limited to eight points on as many shots.
The series continues on Wednesday in Phoenix. Tipoff is 10 p.m. ET.
