The Utah Jazz plan to meet with Philadelphia 76ers assistant Sam Cassell regarding their open head coaching role, sources told Shams Charania and Tony Jones of The Athletic.

Cassell has worked as an assistant with Doc Rivers for almost a decade, beginning with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014 before following Rivers to the 76ers in 2020. His first stint behind the bench was in 2009 when he worked alongside the late Flip Saunders on the Washington Wizards.

His job with the Wizards followed a 15-year playing career with stops at eight different franchises. Cassell won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. Current Jazz CEO Danny Ainge helped build that title-winning team over several years in Boston's front office.

Utah is the only NBA side without a head coach after the Charlotte Hornets and Kenny Atkinson reportedly agreed to a four-year deal Friday. The Jazz are also reportedly interested in former player Jason Terry, Miami Heat assistant Chris Quinn, and recently dismissed Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel as possible successors to Quin Snyder.

Snyder abruptly resigned from his post earlier this month after eight seasons in Utah.
