Warriors' Kerr: Curry 'never been better'
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had high praise for Stephen Curry after the superstar's standout performance in Friday's 106-101 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"Given the circumstances with our team kind of in a rut, trying to dig our way out of a hole, he's just been spectacular," Kerr said after the game, according to ESPN's Kendra Andrews. "He's never been better, I can say that."
Curry finished with 40 points, five assists, and four rebounds in the victory, shooting 15-of-23 from the field and 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. He scored 18 of the Warriors' 32 fourth-quarter points, helping them overcome a 77-74 deficit.
"A lot of confidence has carried over from our playoff run last year," Curry said about the team's aggressive mindset late in games, courtesy of NBC Sports Bay Area.
The Golden State star scored 47 points on 17-of-24 shooting the previous game, a 116-113 victory over the Sacramento Kings. In his outing before that, he tallied 39 points on 13-of-22 shooting in a narrow loss to the Orlando Magic.
Curry is second in the league in scoring at 33.3 points per game, with a 65.2% effective field goal percentage and 69.5% true shooting percentage; his scoring and efficiency marks would be career highs. He's on pace for a 50-40-90 shooting season. The only time Curry hit those benchmarks, he was unanimously named MVP for the 2015-16 campaign.
Despite the reigning Finals MVP's efforts, the Warriors are just 5-7 to start the season (5-6 in games in which Curry played). Golden State ranks 26th in defensive rating - it's never ranked lower than 11th under Kerr, aside from an injury-riddled 2019-20 campaign.
Curry and the Warriors will seek their third straight victory Sunday night when they visit the Kings.
