Draymond dismisses Morant's 'fine in the West' comment
Draymond Green is weighing in after Ja Morant suggested the Memphis Grizzlies have no competition in the Western Conference.
Morant was asked during an interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews in December which teams he believes Memphis will have to run through to win an NBA championship. Morant pointed to the Boston Celtics, telling Andrews, "I'm fine in the West."
While Green agrees that Morant himself is fine in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors forward doesn't feel the same way about the Grizzlies.
"I got a lot of love and respect for Ja," Green said on the latest episode of his podcast. "Young leader that makes his guys believe whatever he believes. And that's a very powerful thing as a leader. He got that. Has had it since Day 1, and you can see it glaringly noticeable since the time he set foot in Memphis. I'm not sure he can quite make his guys believe that one, which is 'I'm fine in the West.'
"You are fine, Ja. You are. But the Warriors in the West now, champ. So yes, you are fine, Ja. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, that's a topic for another day."
The Grizzlies sit in second place in the Western Conference at 25-13, but are 11-10 against teams in the West. One of those 10 losses came against the Warriors, whom they'll face another three times this season.
