Spurs closing in on NBA attendance record for Alamodome game

The San Antonio Spurs appear on their way to making NBA history when they return to the Alamodome for their Jan. 13 game against the Golden State Warriors.

The Spurs announced Friday that they're 8,000 tickets away from reaching the Alamodome's capacity of 65,000 and less than 5,000 away from breaking the NBA's all-time game attendance record.

The current all-time attendance record was set on March 27, 1998, when 62,046 fans packed the Georgia Dome to see the Atlanta Hawks play Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls.

San Antonio's Alamodome was home to the Spurs from 1993-2002 until the team relocated to AT&T Center. The Spurs played their first game at the Alamodome on Nov. 5, 1993, against the Warriors, defeating Golden State 91-85.

The Jan. 13 game is being hosted at the Alamodome as part of the Spurs' 50th anniversary celebration and will feature a halftime performance by 90s rap duo Tag Team.
