Morant standing by 'fine in the West' remarks: 'I said what I said'
The NBA's Western Conference is more stacked following the trade deadline, but that hasn't affected Ja Morant's confidence in the Memphis Grizzlies.
Following the Grizzlies' 119-109 loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday, Morant stood by comments he made in December claiming he was "fine in the West" and that the Celtics were the only team in the league that could threaten Memphis.
"I don't care. Honestly. I said what I said, and I mean that," Morant said, according to Evan Barnes of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. "The confidence I had when I said that is the confidence that got us to the point we're at now, being a top team in this league."
The Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks are among the Western Conference teams that made big moves ahead of the Feb. 9 deadline, with the former trading for Kevin Durant and the latter adding Kyrie Irving.
The Grizzlies sit second in the West at 34-22 but lost nine of their last 12 games and are 16-16 against Western Conference opponents this season. Morant refused to waver in his stance, though.
"Yeah, my confidence will never change," he said. "I don't care who got something to say about it."
