Report: Hawks discussing coaching job with Quin Snyder
The Atlanta Hawks opened formal discussions with former Utah Jazz bench boss Quin Snyder about Atlanta's vacant head coaching job and are attempting to hire him during the season, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The two parties reportedly had a virtual meeting Wednesday and hope to meet in person in the near future. Snyder and the Hawks have mutual interest, Charania reports.
The Hawks dismissed Nate McMillan on Tuesday. Atlanta lost eight of 13 games entering the All-Star break and appointed lead assistant Joe Prunty to take over as interim head coach.
Snyder served as an assistant in Atlanta in 2013-14. The Jazz then hired him as head coach and he compiled a 372-264 record over eight seasons in Utah before stepping down in June 2022.
The Hawks' list of candidates features a number of assistant coaches, including Charles Lee from the the Milwaukee Bucks, Jordi Fernandez from the Sacramento Kings, Kenny Atkinson from the Golden State Warriors, Mitch Johnson from the San Antonio Spurs, and Miles Simon, head coach of the G League South Bay Lakers, according to Charania.
The Hawks have a 29-30 record, good for eighth in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta takes on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.
