Lillard: 'I don't have much of an appetite for building' with young roster
Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard didn't hold back after another disappointing campaign saw his team miss the postseason for the second straight year.
Speaking to reporters after Portland's season-ending 157-101 blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors, Lillard expressed a desire for the team to invest in veterans moving forward.
"I don't have much of an appetite for building with guys two and three years away and not really go after it," Lillard told the Rose Garden Report's Sean Highkin.
Portland entered the season as the seventh-youngest squad in the NBA and traded veterans Josh Hart and Gary Payton at the deadline. The team finished the season with just four players on the roster with more than four years of NBA experience.
Trail Blazers general manager Joe Cronin agreed with Lillard's assessment, saying the team's future rotation will be "much more veteran-laden than it was this year."
"Timeline-wise, it's time for us to start moving quicker towards having a roster that's ready to compete at the highest level," Cronin added.
Lillard turns 33 on July 15 and has endured a long stretch without much team success. Portland is 137-173 over the last four seasons and hasn't won a playoff series in that span.
