Shaq: 'I probably wouldn't be able to coach' in NBA
Coaching an NBA team likely isn't in Shaquille O'Neal's future.
O'Neal told Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix recently that while no NBA team has ever reached out to him about coaching, he doesn't think he would do well in that role.
"I probably wouldn't be able to coach. I have an old-school mentality - Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, the great Gregg Popovich-type mentality. I don't think I would be able to relate to the new generation," the Hall of Famer and "Inside the NBA" co-host explained. "I've coached my son in AAU, and we won a championship. It was actually very fun, but never again."
O'Neal does, however, remain interested in joining the NBA ownership ranks.
"Nobody has ever called me about coaching, but I'm still looking to be an owner, somehow. I'm interested in a certain team in Florida," O'Neal said, referring to the Orlando Magic.
O'Neal jokingly threw his name into the ring for the Los Angeles Lakers' head coaching position following Frank Vogel's firing last year, saying he would take the job if his former team paid him $25 million annually. The Lakers eventually hired former Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham to replace Vogel.
