Report: Silas joining Pistons as top assistant coach

Former Houston Rockets head coach Stephen Silas agreed to join the Detroit Pistons as the top assistant under the newly-hired Monty Williams, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Silas served as the head coach of the Rockets over the previous three seasons, going 59-177 during that span. The rebuilding organization never won more than 22 games in a campaign under Silas.

The 49-year-old started his coaching career in 2000 and has served stints as an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Hornets, and Golden State Warriors.

The Pistons hired Williams at the end of May after Dwane Casey stepped down to transition to a front-office role following five seasons at the helm. The Phoenix Suns dismissed Williams after getting eliminated in the conference semifinals for the second straight season.

Detroit landed Williams on a contract reportedly worth six years and $78.5 million.
