With the No. 28 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Utah Jazz selected Ohio State forward Brice Sensabaugh.

Sensabaugh came to Ohio State as a four-star recruit and impressed in his freshman season. The 6-foot-6 swingman is a smooth scorer and has potential to be the best shooter in this draft class. He averaged 16.3 points to lead the Buckeyes, shooting 40.5% from beyond the arc.

Sensabaugh is comfortable creating his own shot in isolation or pulling up for jumpers out of the pick-and-roll. He's an elite catch-and-shoot threat and may be ready to contribute to a team right away as a low-end starter or microwave scorer off the bench.

Strengths

  • Excels at creating his own shot. Very good mid-range shooter; can get to his spots and elevate over defenders.
  • Solid handle. Can also back down defenders or bump them with his strong frame to create space for his shot.
  • Catch-and-shoot ability extends to NBA range.
  • Strong enough to switch onto taller forwards; may work in a small-ball power forward role alongside other wings.

Weaknesses

  • Not a high-level playmaker. Low assist rate and lacks great court vision, though his team situation forced him to do more on his own.
  • Doesn't create much rim pressure or draw help defenders. Low free-throw rate.
  • Settles for mid-range jumpers too often - can't always create separation.

NBA comparable: T.J. Warren. Sensabaugh is the type of secondary scorer who can run hot and cold, but he's capable of creating shots for himself from anywhere on the floor. Like Warren, he isn't much of a playmaker and can get tunnel vision at times. One of the more encouraging differences in Sensabaugh's game is that he's better and more willing to take catch-and-shoot 3-pointers than Warren has ever been. That should make Sensabaugh a more natural off-ball fit alongside superior playmakers if he's placed in that role.
