Report: 76ers sign Terquavion Smith to 2-way deal after going undrafted
The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly signing NC State guard Terquavion Smith to a two-way contract after the electric scorer went undrafted, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Smith tested the draft waters last season but opted to return to the Wolfpack for his sophomore season. He helped lead the program back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018.
At 6-foot-3, 163 pounds, the lighter Smith is a heavyweight offensively - an effective individual scorer from deep. The 20-year-old exudes craftiness with the ball, shifting around the perimeter with step-backs and crossovers.

Strengths
- A natural and versatile scorer. Even with a below-average 3-point percentage, Smith ranked second in the ACC in made shots from deep. As the lead ball-handler at NC State, he showed prowess taking 3-pointers in isolation and catch-and-shoot.
- Uses his length and athletic traits well on defense to come away with the ball, averaged 1.4 steals per game last season.
- Improved at sharing the rock, finding open players within the flow of the offense.
Weaknesses
- At 163 pounds, Smith would immediately be one of the lightest players in the league. Three players that weighed less than 170 pounds appeared in more than 50 games last season: Trae Young, Isaiah Joe, and Bones Hyland. Will need to add weight and strength to withstand a full season, as a lot of his deficiencies on both sides stem from his light frame.
- Will need to improve as a shooter off the bounce to diversify his looks from deep. Barely cracked 70% from the free-throw line, pointing to work that needs to be done as a shooter.
- Struggles to get good looks at the rim despite improving considerably from his freshman year.
NBA comparable: Patty Mills. The veteran guard overcame his 5-foot-11 frame by committing to playing off the ball, shooting 38.9% from deep over 14 seasons in the league. Once Smith gains more weight, committing to that role with his wingspan and improvements as a passer will make him a consistent rotational player.
