A uniform worn by Wilt Chamberlain during his rookie season set a new record for vintage basketball memorabilia over the weekend.

The No. 13 Philadelphia Warriors jersey and shorts set fetched $1.79 million at auction Saturday, becoming the most expensive vintage basketball game-worn item ever sold, according to SCP Auctions, which handled the sale.

Chamberlain wore the uniform for every home game during his 1959-60 rookie campaign, according to SCP. The uniform was also photo-matched to several other contests, including five playoff games.

He totaled 2,707 points as a rookie, breaking the then-NBA regular-season scoring record set by Bob Pettit. Chamberlain remains one of two players to win both Rookie of the Year and NBA MVP honors in the same campaign.
