Toronto Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr. will opt into his $18.5-million player option for the 2023-24 season, his representation told Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes.

Trent wants to remain with the team, and both parties will work on a long-term contract, Haynes adds.

The 24-year-old averaged 17.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.6 steals last season. He shot 36.9% from deep, making 2.5 threes per game.

With Trent opting in, the Raptors' key free agents are point guard Fred VanVleet and center Jakob Poeltl. VanVleet declined his $22.8-million player option earlier in June.

Trent played his first two-and-a-half seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers after being picked 37th overall in 2018. The Raptors acquired Trent in 2021 in a trade that sent Norman Powell to the Blazers.

Toronto finished 41-41 last season before being ousted in the play-in tournament. The franchise parted ways with Nick Nurse and hired Grizzlies assistant Darko Rajakovic as head coach.
