Middleton: 'No problem' being 3rd option behind Giannis, Dame

Khris Middleton is ready to do whatever is possible to win.

After the Milwaukee Bucks' acquisition of All-Star guard Damian Lillard, Middleton is prepared to take a step back for the new addition and franchise stalwart Giannis Antetokounmpo.

"Me being the third guy, I have no problem at all," Middleton said, according to The Athletic's Eric Nehm. "I mean, these guys are going to make my life easier. I hope I can make their life a little bit easier."

The Bucks acquired Lillard in September, giving up the defensive-minded Jrue Holiday and sharpshooter Grayson Allen, as well as a future first-round pick and two first-round swaps in a three-team deal with the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns.

Middleton has enjoyed success in a Big Three, playing alongside Antetokounmpo and Holiday to deliver Milwaukee an NBA championship in 2021.

"For me, it’s just coming in and trying to fit, be a role player at times," Middleton said. "Just change roles throughout the game, whatever is needed. … Let those guys handle a lot of the heavy lifting, figure out ways I can help, space the defense, and make their job a little easier."

The three-time All-Star re-signed with the club in the offseason on a three-year, $102-million deal that includes a player option for the final season. Middleton has struggled to stay healthy, appearing in 33 games last campaign, the lowest mark since his rookie year with the Detroit Pistons in 2012-13. But he's ready to put those issues behnd him.

"I’m extremely happy. My family’s happy; I’m happy. I’m excited about the future that we have for these next three years that I’m here, and hopefully, we can win a couple more championships. That would be nice."

Milwaukee kicks off its season against the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct. 26.
