T-Wolves sign Jaden McDaniels to 5-year, $136M extension
The Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a five-year, $136-million contract extension with forward Jaden McDaniels, his agents told The Athletic's Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski.
The Timberwolves will be in the luxury tax this season for the first time in nearly 20 years, Charania adds. The franchise already handed out lucrative contracts to Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert.
McDaniels was selected 28th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers before being traded to the Timberwolves.
Noted for his defense and ability to be a weapon from behind the arc, he has exhibited steady improvement throughout his three seasons with Minnesota and averaged 9.3 points and 2.8 rebounds during the team's 2021-22 playoff run.
McDaniels averaged 12.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists during his 2022-23 campaign. He also shot 39.8% on 3-pointers.
The rising star was unable to help Minnesota in its opening-round playoff series after sustaining a hand injury towards the end of the regular season.
