Kerr initially thought Warriors tenure wouldn't last more than 5 years
Steve Kerr's time with the Golden State Warriors has lasted much longer than he initially expected.
Now in his 10th season coaching the Warriors, Kerr said he joined the team with the assumption his tenure would last five years or less.
"There was part of me that was thinking, 'All right, I'll go five years and go back to San Diego and surf and play golf, and that would be it,'" Kerr told Monte Poole of NBC Sports. "And hopefully, I'll make it five years. Maybe they'll fire me before that. Who knows?"
Kerr went on to become the most successful head coach in Warriors history, leading the team to four championships and six NBA Finals appearances. His playoff record stands at 99-41.
The 58-year-old is in the final year of his contract. Both he and Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. have expressed a desire to sign an extension.
