Blazers' Robert Williams to undergo season-ending knee surgery
Portland Trail Blazers big man Robert Williams III will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee, the team announced Friday.
Williams sustained the injury, which the team referred to as "ligament damage," in last Sunday's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Blazers and Williams were also considering a cleanup procedure that would've only held him out for two-to-three months, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania and Jared Weiss.
Williams played just six games with his new team after being dealt from the Celtics in the trade that brought Jrue Holiday to Boston. "Time Lord" was averaging 6.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in a modest 19.8 minutes per game, backing up Deandre Ayton.
This setback is far from the first injury in Williams' career. The 26-year-old has never played in more than 61 games in any of his six seasons, and he's been held to under half his team's contests in four different campaigns.
