Lakers raising unique NBA Cup banner on Dec. 18
The Los Angeles Lakers will raise a banner for their victory in the NBA's inaugural In-Season Tournament on Dec. 18 before their contest against the New York Knicks, the team announced Monday.
The pennant will use a different shape and color than the ones commemorating the Lakers' 17 NBA championships to make its purpose obvious, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania and Jovan Buha. It will have space to add future dates if the franchise wins the NBA Cup again.
The Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers on Saturday to claim the first In-Season Tournament trophy. LeBron James was the tournament's MVP, and he and Anthony Davis were named to the In-Season All-Tournament team on Monday. The pair won solid black crystal basketballs for their efforts.
L.A. received another trophy for the victory, while the players were awarded $500,000 and medals.
The Lakers return to action on Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks.
