Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown said that Indiana Pacers guard Buddy Hield hit him on the head on a crucial late possession in Monday's contest.

With 3.2 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Brown attempted a shot to try to break a 131-131 tie when Hield appeared to hit the Celtics star in the head from behind. It was initially ruled a foul, but Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle challenged the call, which was overturned upon review.

"I think he obviously hit me in the head," Brown said, according to The Athletic's Jared Weiss. "We definitely can do some investigation. That's what I'm gonna say. I've never heard head (is) part of the ball."

Brown said the referee told him he wasn't hit on the head, according to Weiss.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said that Hield told him that he fouled Brown, per SB Nation's Noa Dalzell.

On the following possession, Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis was called for a shooting foul on Pacers wing Bennedict Mathurin's 3-point attempt. He made two out of three free throws, leading Indiana to the 133-131 victory.

Brown finished the game with a season-high 40 points as the Celtics were without Jayson Tatum due to ankle injury management.

The Pacers were without star guard Tyrese Haliburton for the second half after he suffered a hamstring strain from slipping on the court. He had to be helped off by teammates. Mathurin stepped up in Haliburton's absence, scoring 26 points off the bench.

The Celtics take on the Minnesota Timberwolves next on Wednesday.
