Stewart arrested for punching Suns' Eubanks pregame
Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart was arrested for assault after punching Phoenix Suns big man Drew Eubanks prior to Wednesday's matchup between the two teams, Phoenix police confirmed to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The NBA is expected to receive footage and review the incident, a source told Charania.
Police said that security had to separate both players.
"Stewart was arrested for assault and issued a citation and released. The investigation remains active," police Sgt. Phil Krynsky said in a statement.
The reason behind the dispute is still unknown.
"The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable," a Phoenix Suns spokesperson said. "We unequivocally support Drew and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA."
Eubanks remained available for Wednesday's game against Detroit. Stewart had already been ruled out with a sprained ankle that's sidelined him for eight consecutive contests, including Wednesday.
