Drummond exits in wheelchair during Bulls' loss to Knicks

Chicago Bulls center Andre Drummond left Tuesday's 128-117 loss to the New York Knicks early in the second quarter and was taken to the locker room in a wheelchair, according to Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.

Drummond injured his ankle while attempting to grab a rebound against Knicks center Isaiah Hartenstein. The Bulls center was in visible pain after the play in question, lying down in front of the bench during a timeout.

Just before getting hurt, Drummond had rushed back to Chicago's paint after miscommunicating on an alley-oop off the glass with Torrey Craig, causing the Bulls to miss the fast-break attempt.

The 30-year-old finished with four points, two rebounds, and a steal in five minutes off the bench. He registered a double-double in three straight games entering Tuesday and was averaging 8.4 points - his most since the 2020-21 campaign - and 9.1 rebounds.

Chicago is preparing to compete in the play-in tournament for a second straight season. With only three games left to play, the Bulls are guaranteed to face the Atlanta Hawks to determine who will move on for a chance to grab the eighth seed. Despite losing, Chicago maintained its slim one-game advantage over Atlanta thanks to the Hawks' falling in double overtime Tuesday to the Miami Heat.
