Beverley chucks ball at Pacers fans late in Bucks' loss
Patrick Beverley appeared to get into an altercation with Indiana Pacers fans sitting courtside during the Milwaukee Bucks' 120-98 season-ending Game 6 loss Thursday.
With 2:32 to play in the fourth and the Bucks down 20, broadcast cameras aimed at the Bucks' bench showed the outspoken guard throwing a basketball into a nearby section of Pacers fans, seemingly striking one in the head. After gesturing for the ball back and receiving it, Beverley immediately whips it back at the spectator who returned it. Teammates then intervene to pull the guard away before Beverley returns to his seat.
In a different angle shown on the Pacers' local broadcast, security eventually intervenes and escorts one of the fans out. Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who didn't play Thursday due to a lingering calf injury, then reaches out to shake the fan's hand.
The exchange between Beverley and one of the fans escalated when the latter yelled "Cancun ... Cancun on three" as the Bucks broke their huddle, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The NBA is reportedly looking into Beverley's interaction with fans during Thursday night's contest, adds Charania.
Beverley, who was in his first postseason with Milwaukee after arriving in a midseason trade from the Philadelphia 76ers, played a team-high 40 minutes in the loss. The 35-year-old scored six points and had a team-best five assists but shot 3-of-11 from the floor and 0-of-3 from distance.
Later after the game, he offered his take on what happened.
Beverley, a 12-year veteran, averaged 6.2 points, 2.9 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in 73 combined appearances between the 76ers and Bucks this season.
