The Detroit Pistons appear interested in hiring Minnesota Timberwolves head executive Tim Connelly as president of basketball operations, sources told The Athletic's James L. Edwards III and Shams Charania.

Connelly, who worked with the Denver Nuggets from 2013-22 prior to the team's championship win in 2023, is in the midst of a second-round series between his former and current clubs.

The executive is expected to stay with the Timberwolves but will likely opt out of the final year of his deal.

The Pistons are also interested in Trajan Langdon of the New Orleans Pelicans, Dennis Lindsey of the Dallas Mavericks, and Marc Eversley of the Chicago Bulls. They were denied permission to speak with Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst.

Detroit could reportedly make a hiring decision in the coming weeks.

Despite having top-four odds for the first pick in the NBA draft, the Pistons were given the fifth pick for the third straight season Sunday.
